According to a report of the Independent Book Publishing Association, over five million American adults belong to reading groups. What, do you believe, is the basis for this country's love for literature and books?
Mankind has relished storytelling since the days of the caveman. A great story transports us out of ourselves, takes us to a time and place far removed from our normal daily lives, and allows us to live in our imaginations for a while. Movies transport us in a similar manner, but oh! The joy of reading a great novel! It’s like a little bit of storytelling heaven you can carry with you, and delve into whenever you have a free moment!
If you were stuck on a deserted island and could only bring one book with you to read, what would it be and why?
How to Survive on a Deserted Island
If you could have dinner with three writers (dead or alive) who would they be and why?
Jane Austen, Charlotte Brontë and William Shakespeare. The first two are my favorite novelists. Having studied their lives and works meticulously, and having written their private memoirs “as them,” it would be an incredible thrill to meet them in person. I have so many questions I’d like to ask them! As for Shakespeare… he’s hands down the world’s best, most famous, and most produced playwright. I’d love to know more about his life, and learn the inspiration for all his brilliant works.
Favorite book when you were a child?
Anne of Green Gables, The Secret Garden and Charlotte’s Web.
Favorite heroine in literature and why?
Jane Eyre, because she was feisty yet good-hearted, she always stayed true to herself, and she survived difficult circumstances to reach her happy ending.
Favorite hero in literature and why?
Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice, because he has such a wonderful character arc.
Favorite first line from a book?
"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife." (Pride and Prejudice)
Favorite last line from a book?
"And now I think I have said sufficient." (Agnes Grey)
Words to live by?
The three secrets to success are passion, patience and perseverance.
