Thanks so much for your emails and letters about what your group is discussing. We've had great fun reading them, and we hope you will, too. Please continue to tell us what your group is doing!
Congratulations to Jane and her Excelsior Library Book Clubs in Excelsior, Minnesota, for winning the random drawing of the Discussible Book Choices Contest
“Here at Excelsior Library we have two book clubs. One is for men. It has about five to six men and their first two books that they are reading are:
Sep. - The Spirit of St. Louis by Charles Lindberg
Oct. - The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.
"The other group is women, but not necessarily restricted to women. The first two books that they are reading are:
Sep. - The Work of Wolves by Kent Meyers
Oct. - The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.
"You will notice that the October selection is the same in both groups, and that is because they meet together twice a year. The last time we met together we read The Poet of Tolstoy Park by Sonny Brewer. It was a great read and fun to discuss!
"I'm also in another book club and have been in this for 30+ years. Our selections are:
Aug. - Gilead by Marilynne Robinson
Sep. - River Town by Peter Hessler.
"There are so many great books to read and so little time to read them. I may have to quit work to spend more time reading.
"I love this web site with all of the suggestions."

More Discussible Book Choices
"The Kent Island Book Club met in August to discuss Matthew Pearl's latest book The Poe Shadow. The book focused on the mystery surrounding Edgar Allan Poe's death. Some our members had enjoyed his previous book The Dante Club. The Poe Shadow was an interesting read, especially since we live so close to Baltimore, which is where the book was based. We had Matthew Pearl for a telechat at our meeting. Matt gave us great insights into his book."
--Debbie, Kent Island Book Club
"The Reading Circle has chosen The Inheritance of Loss by Kiran Desai for September and March by Geraldine Brooks for October."
--Dorothy, The Reading Circle
"The Friday Night Books & Wine Club loved The Shadow of the Wind – so many things to discuss. September is The Memory Keeper’s Daughter."
--Susie, Friday Night Books & Wine Club
"The Bookers just read The Same Sweet Girls in preparation for Cassandra King’s next book in 2007. We enjoyed her commitment to female relationships."
