“For our January meeting, we read The Night Journal by Elizabeth Crook. We had a lively discussion of this historical fiction tale about a Harvey girl and the railroads coming to the west at the turn of the century. One of our members brought art history books which depicted the actual hotel where a lot of the action took place, as well as the railroad and the west at the time. We all enjoyed our discussion that day."

"The Westport Library Book Club started about 1 year ago with 5 people. We now have about 22 people on our list, although many are snow birds who fly south from October to May. Our January book was The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. February was The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls; March - The Last Days of Dogtown by Anita Diamant; April - St Dale by Sharyn McCrum."

"My book club is discussing T.C. Boyle's Tortilla Curtain this month. A couple of us have wanted to read it for over a year. I'm so glad we finally chose it. It will be a lively discussion. Although written over 10 years ago, it is very timely today regarding illegal immigration. There are so many conflicts (haves and have nots, class, racism, good vs. evil, environmental and more). There is no real conclusion to the book as the issue. At times I wanted to cry and at others I was so angry. Can't wait to discuss."

"I started this book group three and a half years ago. The name of the group is the Mirasol Book Club named after the community in which most of the members live. I had just moved into a newly built gated community in 2002 where I knew no one. The group originally started with women who were my immediate new neighbors. Over the course of time, some members dropped out and new members joined by word of mouth or by acquaintance with other members. We now have 15 members and we meet once a month in the evening. For each book, we have a discussion leader and a hostess in whose home we meet. The women in the group range in age from 50 to our oldest member who is 82. We rotate the leader and the home so that everyone in the group has equal participation. We start the meeting with a very focused discussion of the author and the book led by the discussion leader. Then we socialize over coffee and fruit/cake provided by the hostess. Our recent book picks have been The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See, Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, The Falls by Joyce Carol Oates, and Broken For You by Stephanie Kallos."

"Memoirs and Coffee is a 3-year old group of readers who number about 9 people and me the leader. It is a library sponsored group which reads memoirs. We have in the past read 2 biographies but quickly returned to the memoir. This month we are again deviating from the group theme and reading a fiction selection Suite Francaise. It is a book that bridges the gap between diary and novel. I anticipate a lively discussion not only on the subject matter covered in the book but also on the relationship and fine line the memoir travels between fiction and nonfiction."

"Our book group loves several books - two of which I just noticed one of your other groups loved. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See and The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory. One of our favorite book club meetings was The Lovely Bones and also The Red Tent (didn't everyone love those?). Last month we loved discussing The Tender Bar by J.R. Moehringer, and next month our selection, which I am looking forward to, is Eat, Love, Pray by Elizabeth Gilbert. Thanks for Listening!"

"I started a book club last September, 2006 after moving here from Virginia. We meet in our home and have refreshments and discuss the book for the current month. I belonged to a book club and decided to start a club here in Ohio. We have 6 members as of this date. Books that we have read are: Secret Life of the Bees, Gilead, Baker Towers, Edge of Reason, The Pilots Wife, A Painted House, Name all the Animals. The last one, Name all the Animals I did not care for. The ones I liked the most were Secret Life of the Bees and A Painted House. I am looking forward to hearing what your favorite books are."
