“My book group, The Cape Goddesses, will be celebrating our 50th book this month! As a special treat, self-published author, Barbara Stretton will be our guest, and we will discuss her children's book The Case of The Tiberian Tiger. Some of our other guests will be a local librarian and the head of the English Dept of a local high school, as well as friends and neighbors.
“Our group has had some pretty eclectic and wonderful author experiences. We've read and discussed the second draft of a friend's manuscript. Joan Anderson spent an afternoon with us on our yearly trip to Cape Cod. John Shorrs discussed his book Beneath A Marble Sky on the phone with us. Susan Vreeland (Luncheon of the Boating Party, Girl in Hyacinth Blue) autographed our scrapbook when we discussed The Forest Lover. Our September choice is Water for Elephants!
“We can see ourselves maturing as a group, and our discussions become more involved and analytical as time passes together."

More Discussible Book Choices
“Hello, Reading Between the Whines is a book club that was formed over 2 years ago. There are now 9 of us. Six of us started the group when our children were in preschool together and have added a few members in the last year. We meet at the end of each month in a member's home. The person that hosts usually picks the book, but for the next year we are using the book club sets from our library. Two of our members worked with the public library to get a $500 grant for book club sets. Each set has 7 paperback copies of the novel as well as the book on CD. We even got to help select the titles the library ordered.
“This month we read Water for Elephants. It was much more historical than we thought it would be. Instead of meeting at a home this month, we're all going to the circus. It just worked out that Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey is in town! Next month we're reading River of Doubt: Theodore Roosevelt's Darkest Journey.
“Thank you to Sturdy Shoes Book Group for sending your suggestions to Reading Group Choices - your selections sound very interesting! I love reading what other groups suggest!"

“Our book club, Morning Books with Coffee, just discussed the book Dinner With A Perfect Stranger, by David Gregory. Actually the word discussed is a bit on the bland side when you actually were at the table during this discussion. It was lively, to say the least. If your book club needs to get a jump start or needs some extra action in your discussion, add this book to you list.
"Our conversation about the book started in the hallway of the library, where we meet, while awaiting the room to be ready for us and didn't end until we drove off a couple of hours later.”
Tammie, Morning Books with Coffee, Columbia, MD
“I have a book club with a great group of friends from graduate school. There are about 8 of us, though with babies and life, not everyone can meet every month. We tend to read novels that explore the notion of identity, culture, and place. This month we're reading the new novel, When We Get There by Shauna Seliy. It's a beautiful exploration of a boy's coming of age, a small town in western Pennsylvania, and his discovery of his family and his community with its Eastern European immigrants. It's so well written."
Elizabeth, Washington, DC
“Our group just read Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. This true account of one man's mission to promote peace by building schools, primarily for girls, in Pakistan and Afghanistan, is a must-read. We were all inspired to see how much could be accomplished by one man with very little money, but a great deal of persistence. In the process of reading Greg's story, we also learned much about the history and culture of the people of the regions where he does his work. Greg can teach us understanding and tolerance for people whose lives are very different from ours, and will encourage us all to find ways to help.”

“The West Babylon Literary Club will be enjoying Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See with a "chinese tea" in June.”

“I am part of a book club called "The Very Fun Book Club" of Santa Barbara. We are 14 strong, all women. We meet once a month for wine and goodies and discussion of a book we have picked for the month. Our group has been in existence for about 5 years now and we all enjoy it and hope to continue forever!!! We are all between the ages of 50 thru about 70 years young!!! Our most recent book was Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky – a wonderful read and a great book for discussion."
