Discussible Choices: What Are You Reading?
September 2007

Congratulations to Rosemary and The Irmo Library Group from Lexington, South Carolina, for winning the random drawing for this month's Discussible Book Choice!

We enjoy getting emails from book club members and sharing their choices with everyone. Please email us with your group's discussible choices, and you may win a book-related prize for every member of your reading group. Please remember to include your group name, number of people in your group, and a mailing address to send the prizes.

"Our group read Bee Season several years ago, and we still bring it up from time to time. The book is unusual and takes some unexpected twists and turns. The thing is that although several of the members said that they really didn't like the book all that much, we all had to admit that it was one of our most memorable books. The secret life of one of the characters is so unexpected and shocking and the ending marks a major turning point for another character.  I would recommend it to other groups as one that should generate lots of discussion and differing opinions.”

Rosemary, The Irmo Library Group, Lexington, SC

More Discussible Book Choices

“I am a librarian and the moderator of two adult book discussion groups.  Our evening group just finished discussing The Shop on Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber.  Next month we will do The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion.  Our day book club is discussing The Memory Keeper’s Daughter by Kim Edwards.  Next month we will do The Space Between Us by Thrity Umrigar.”

Mary Kay, Barberton Public Library Day & Evening Book Clubs, Barberton, OH

“Our group will discuss The Red Tent in November. The group discussed it eightyears ago, but through the years, we have added many new members that have not read it. The book brought up so many different ideas last time that we know the discussion will be just as lively with the new members’ opinions.”

Alison, The Dog Owners’ Book Club, Charlottesville, VA
