"Loving Frank by Nancy Horan: We read the book because it received a good review. We were all surprised to learn more about Frank Lloyd Wright's life. None of us knew his biography. Half of the group enjoyed reading the book half did not. All agreed they learned from the book. It was interesting to listen to the different moral stances that members took during the discussion. No one got upset - just surprised each to hear how they interpreted Wright's life and what is acceptable to society-then and now."

More Discussible Book Choices
“We had a joint meeting of the men's and women's book clubs to discuss A Long Way Dawn by Nick Hornby. We had a very thought-provoking discussion. Some read it as satire/humor, and some read it as straight fiction. We got into discussions of suicide and assistive suicide and cases where we knew or were involved in a suicide. It was a hard book for some to read but well worth it with a discussion to follow up the reading.”
Jane, Men with Books & the Excelsior Book Club, Excelsior, MN
“We read The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins. It was one of my favorite choices (in my over 5 years with this club). We have a history teacher in our group who was able to speak to the time period and England's imperialist policies. We also really enjoyed discussing the characters, especially since the narrator changes for each chapter so you get a sense of their personality as they describe events. Since it was a mystery, we also enjoyed finding out who figured out the mystery first.”
Pamela, Art Partners Book Club, Atlanta, GA
“Our bookclub just read The Florist's Daughter by Patricia Hampl and we had a wonderful discussion. Hampl is a master of the memoir genre and her observations and poetic way of creating images are beautiful to read. We all appreciated this book and enjoyed it very much.”
Carrie, ACME Bookclub, Edina, MN
“One of the best discussions our group has ever had was from the book Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum. There are numerous layers to this book, and we were each touched by what the characters experienced. It is well worth a 5-star recommendation.”
Donna, BandB Girls, Culver City, CA
“The Welsh Girl by Peter Ho Davies provided a look at World War II from a whole new perspective--that of people living in a small Welsh village where a German POW camp is built.”
Lois, Tuesday Book Group that Sometimes Meets on Monday, Santa Barbara, CA
“Devil in the White City.”
