Congratulations to Fran and the Paige Turners for winning the random drawings for this month’s Discussible Book Choice!

We enjoy hearing from book club members who share with everyone the book choices that made for lively discussions.. Please let us know what about the book contributed to your great discussion – you may win a book-related prize for every member of your reading group!

“We just discussed The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, and we all loved it. During our discussion we even had a Latin lesson on the poetry of Seneca. It was also interesting that we had differing opinions about the Holocaust portion of the book - some finding it too strong some not so strong.”
Fran, The Paige Turners, Brick, NJ

“If you are not sure as to how to tackle Roberto Bolano's 2666, we have a suggestion. Since the book is broken down into five sections the way the author intended it to be released, we broke it up, and let one member facilitate each section. Since we have 6 members, it was nice to have the main faciliator (that would be um...Me) get a break and others to take over. It was a huge success! There were different approaches, and all were extremely enjoyable. It made reading this 900+ page book more user friendly. We did come to the conclusion that it was highly probable the majority of reviews written out there were done so without completing the novel. So on behalf of The Meta Book Club, we highly recommend 2666 as a Reading Group Choice!”
Cynthia, The Meta Book Club, Gig Harbor, WA

“Our favorite book of 2008 was by far People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks.  Well-written, wonderful characters, travels - a perfect adventure in your mind.  Discussing how we each interpreted parts of the journey and what we thought happened after we left the characters spilled over into two meetings. A perfect book if your group has read a few "duds" and needs something great.”
Cheryl, The Palm Beach Book Club, West Palm Beach, FL

“We read Run by Ann Patchett.  It was a great read, and we had a great discussion.  We discussed what we would do in that situation and if the the plot would change in a different time period.”
Jane, The Excelsior Book Club, Excelsior, MN
