Congratulations to Jackie and theThe Springport Book Discussion Group for winning the random drawings for this month’s Discussible Book Choice!

We enjoy hearing from book club members who share with everyone the book choices that made for lively discussions.. Please let us know what about the book contributed to your great discussion – you may win a book-related prize for every member of your reading group!

“Our book club just celebrated our 1st anniversary. We have only eight members but have had some wonderful discussions. Our last selection was The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. It prompted a discussion about autism, mathematics (are mathematicians slightly autistic?), marriage, and sensory enlightenment!”
Jackie, The Springport Book Discussion Group, Albion, MI

More Discussible Book Choices

“So far, we have only read Christmas Jars - our first meeting is next Wednesday, and we are hoping for this to continue for a long time.  Everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy the book, but we will be discussing this week in length.”
Patricia, “Undecided”, Deer Park, NY

Guernsey Literary...." was one of the best books in a long time- and it was unexpected (odd title notwithstanding).  It made for a good discussion. Another great find was Still Alice. What a powerful story-well-written and scary!  You could feel the character's dilemma and pain and the love of those around her....once you begin, it's hard to put down!”
Jan, The Hamburg Book ub, Hamburg, NY

“We had an enjoyable discussion about the main character of Aminata in the book Someone Knows My Name.  From young girl to older woman, she remained strong, with a sense of dignity, respect, and sense of strong family values no matter what the conflict and diversity in her life.   It was a fantastic book discussion, and this book is highly recommended reading!”
Lynn, The North Trail Book Club, Apple Valley, MN

“We had a great discussion of the classic In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. We never got off topic or ran out of things to discuss and ended up having a deeply philosophical discussion of murder, insanity and death.”
J
enny, Bibliophiles Beat Battlestar Galactica Book Club, Austin, TX

“October book read was Fyodor Dostoesvsky's The Brothers Karamazov.  While most of us relied on our CliffsNotes, one member gave us a wonderful review of the book...her former book club has studied Russian literature for two years.  We came away with a somewhat better understanding of Dostoevsky's composition of The Brothers Karamazov.”
Hedy, Wild Women of the West, Sahuarita, AZ

Before She Wakes was a breathtaking beautifully written story of a little girl in an accident and the effects it has on the man who hit her, her parents, and the woman who takes care of her.  ‘Made you question what you would have done in the same situation.  We all gave it high praise.”
Gail, Monday Night Readers, Anoka, MN

Books that made great discussions: The Glass Castle, Middlesex, Abundance, The Necklace, and Shutter Island
Helen, Lionesses, Buffalo, NY

Last Lecture - makes you realize what's truly important in life.”
Suzy, Wordy Women, Greenwood, IN

Last Night at the Lobster by Stewart O'Nan made for one of the best discussions our group has had.”
Lexi, Current Topics, Kingston, RI
